About Our President

About Our 2010-2011 Olathe Rotary Club Preident

Nichole Asquith

I am excited to be stepping into the Presidency role of our club, I am also humbled. When I joined the club

six years ago I knew very little about Rotary and what it meant to be a Rotarian. Over my time in the club,

I have witnessed our members on countless occasions remind me of why I am proud to be a part of not

only our club, but the international organization. This year I watched as our club donated to help save the

life of one of our members, traveled to foreign countries to help in water campaigns and rebuild after a

natural disaster, help make a home for a local family and raised more than $60,000 for our club charities.

I grew up in Wheat Ridge, Colorado until the age of 14 when my dad’s job moved us to Kansas City. I

graduated from Olathe East High School in 1997. I was the first person in my dad’s family to attend

college. I grew up in Wheat Ridge, Colorado until the age of 14 when my dad’s job moved us to Kansas City. I graduated from Olathe East High School in 1997. I was the first person in my dad’s family to attend college; I started at Emporia State University as a double major in Theatre and Education. During my second year I made the life altering decision to change majors and subsequently colleges. I graduated with a degree in Journalism – Strategic Communication from the University of Kansas.

After college I spent two years working as a volunteer and program manager for Junior Achievement of Middle America. In 2004, I returned to the Olathe School District in a full-time position as a communications specialist and in 2009 I was asked to take over our internship program and part of our business partnership program. I now oversee the communication for 19 high school programs and work with our local businesses and organizations to provide real-world opportunities to our more than 28,000 students.  Personally, my family is the single most important thing in my world (as many of you know). I have been married to my husband Marc 7 years this June (he is a K-State grad, but we will not hold this against him). He is truly an amazing man that fully supports

each of my crazy adventures. We welcomed Samantha Alexis into our family in February of 2007. I am also the oldest of four siblings; I have two sisters and a 16 year old brother. I am sometimes asked why we take Samantha to events where you normally would not see a three-year old. My reason, I believe my family must know what I am doing to support our community in order to support the time I give to it and that for my daughter, the only way to teach her servant leadership is through example.

The two most influential people in my life have been my parents. My mom has taught each of us compassion, courage and strength.  My dad always taught us the importance of community, following your passion and dedication.

My goals for this Rotary Year include:

1. Focusing on the Family of Rotary

2. Growth in membership to 110 members

3. Growth in service opportunities for our members

4. Growth in revenue from Days of Wine & Rotary by $4000.

5. Current and New Member Development

We as a team will accomplish these goals through the use of our individual and group time, talents and treasures. We will have the opportunity for active members to mentor new members that they did not sponsor, we will invite our families to be active in our opportunities, we will continue to support the Days of Wine & Rotary as a signature event of the Olathe Rotary Club and we will work to expand our reach throughout the Kansas City area and the World.

Winston Churchill said, “We make a living by what we get, we make a life by what we give.”
